Halfway over the ocean and some coming attractions...

Wow and Yay!
Our inaugural auction was a big success. I started putting together this post soon after the close of bidding and since then a big smile has remained on my face.

THANK YOU to all who explored The Debut Collection, especially the numerous folks who bid and also contributed in other ways! The support from so many family and friends – including new friends that we’ve met through this adventure – means so much to us.

100 never looked so good...

Can you imagine living to be 100 years old? This past weekend I flew back to Los Angeles to attend my Great Aunt Annie's 100th birthday celebration held at the Huntington Library. It was a beautiful evening catching up with many relatives I had not seen in years as well as meeting some for the very first time. As a child I grew up visiting my great aunt's store in Chinatown but rarely got to see the rest of her family. In many ways I felt like a distant observer witnessing such an amazing occasion unfold. And as all of her grandchildren took turns recalling their favorite "grandma" story I was filled with emotions. I got chills thinking about what it must feel like to have had so many life experiences (i.e. weddings, childbirth, holidays), but also to be witness to numerous wars, hardship and discrimination. What an INCREDIBLE woman, still so full of life and personality!

When I Say Apple…

… do you think fruit or phone? Technology… some people love it, and some people hate it. It is easy to see how technology has improved the world today, but it is also apparent how technology has enabled individuals to impose a negative impact. We have become a society dependent on electronic devices, our heads constantly buried in phones, tablets and computers.

Full House...

We entered the three-story beach house to the sounds of enthusiastic conversation and excitement. The kitchen was filled with activity preparing for dinner, and children were running about. We were instantly welcomed by hugs and smiles and immediately offered a refreshment. Some might consider it chaos but others would simply call it family.

Fresh Off the Boat (well actually Boeing) ...

I was only eight months old when I first travelled on an airplane. The flight was 12 hours long (Taipei, Taiwan to Los Angeles, California), so perhaps it was destiny from the beginning that I would become a flight attendant. I was indeed, MADE IN TAIWAN and quite fortunate to be adopted by a Chinese American couple, a.k.a. mom and dad. I cannot recall a specific moment when they first explained to me that I was adopted. To be perfectly honest, they could have kept it a secret and I may never have found out (see photo below).

A Tattered Piece of Carpet...

I distinctly remember the first piece of knitting I ever created resembled a tattered piece of carpet, jaggedly torn from the living room floor. It was supposed to be a scarf, though I highly doubt anyone could look remotely fashionable with that stiff and crooked piece of knitwear around their neck. Alas, it never made it beyond the front door of my parent's house, though I would be curious to see if it still lives somewhere, perhaps hidden at the back of my childhood closet.
